U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a new edition of Form I-9 on April 3. Form I-9 is the employment eligibility verification form, and the new edition is effective January 20, 2025, through May 31, 2027. This version includes minor changes in language and an updated privacy notice. E-Verify & E-Verify+ also have minor language updates regarding citizenship status.
Older versions of the form may be used through their noted expiration date.
- 8-1-23 through 5-31-27.
- If you are using the 8-1-23 through 7-31-26 version in an electronic system, it must be updated by 7-31-26 with the form featuring a 5-31-27 expiration date.
Employers may begin using the new form immediately. We also encourage employers to review employment eligibility verification policies to ensure compliance and proper documentation in the event of an audit or worksite visit.
